Indicator and Headlight control not working!

Hello. This problem has mystified the experts: The Indicator and Headlight control on our Volvo S60 D5 has stopped working. The actual lamps seem to be working (Hazard Warning device works normally and indicators flash as normal when car is opened/locked with remote). The Headlights only work on dipped beam (regardless of the position of the switch and/or headlights high-beam stalk on the steering column). Has anybody had a similar problem? Please read on, because this one has mystified both a mechanic and and an auto-electrition (both of whom are competent, experienced and with their own respective long established businesses - I have used the services of both many times before for various cars). Both the Indicators and the Headlights had worked normally prior to some minor work being done on the car. The only electrical problem the car had was that the reverse lights were not working. The work done on the car is as follows. The car has just had the mechanical part of the Ignition switch replaced (after the lock barrel went faulty) with a new part supplied from Volvo. The electrical part of this was detached from the mechanical part of the ignition lock for this work to be done, however the electrical part did not need to be disconnected from the wiring loom. The fault with both the Indicators and Headlights manifested itself after the electrical part of the Ignition switch was attached and tested. The mechanic then checked all the connections and all the fuses (replacing one in the boot/trunk, which seems to have fixed the problem with the reversing lights). However everything seemed to be normal. Close inspection of the circuit board behing the steering wheel seemed to indicate a hairline flaw in one of the circuits, so he replaced this with a new part from Volvo, however this made absolutely no difference. It was at this stage that he sent our car up to the auto-electrician. However he could not find the cause either. The bizzare part of this is that the auto-electrition also has another Volvo S60 which has the exact same Indicator & Lights problem after having it's Ignition Lock replaced by a different mechanic! We saw the other car, so he hasn't made that up! There is no obvious or apparent reason to explain why this has happened! Is this a flukey coincidence, or have there been similar problems out there? Both the mechanic who worked on our car and the auto-electricion have asked around their respective contacts, but to no avail. Our Volvo S60 D5 is just over 4 years old (mid-2004), has 5 speed manual transmission, has covered approximately 50,000 miles from new and has a full service history. N.B. The reverse light fuse problem could possibly have been caused by a light trailer which we hired recently. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. MoCam.

Hello All. Finally the resolution (was it only a week ago we got it back working?)! Part Number V30658677 - the housing behind the steering wheel which contains a circuit board needed to be replaced. Again! Apparently this part needs to be programmed before it can receive the signal from the Indicator stalk. Apart from the fact that my mechanic was not advised of this when he purchased this part from his nearest Volvo main dealer (he did ask), the new part that was supplied could not be programmed and needed to be replaced with another new part. When the second replacement was programmed, the Indicators and Headlights worked again. The fix was made at the Volvo main dealer from which we purchased the car. Hopefully this information will be useful to somebody out there and will help avoid the shenanigans we had to experience with our car. Cheers, MoCam.

Driving on the motorway today and all of a sudden the indicators start to go inconsistent, then stop completely. Pull over and restart the engine they started ok but now have gone again. Headlights working but not full beam. Windscreen wipers working but only on one setting, fast and sporadic settings don't seem to work. Very odd. Sounds similar to the previous comment. Let's wait and see what the breakdown people think!
